This site is still HEAVILLY wip!

March 12: Finally Back to Relative Normalcy

It's been a while, but I think things are finally back to normal for me right now. Without getting into too much detail, I've moved into a new house, though I still need to pick out some more furnature for my bedroom, as well as get a bigger desk since my bedroom can actually fit a decently-sized desk now, and a new computer chair since my current one's getting kind of beat up.

I'm finally starting to feel like continuing to learn game development now, too, though I'm torn between continuing that previous tutorial I was following or starting with a new one, mainly because I'm unsure how rusty I've gotten or if I forgot anything from that tutorial. I'm leaning more toward continuing, but I'll probably still wait a few days to decide.

I've also wanted to start actually updating this site a lot more, overhauling the site and replacing all the placeholders all over. I already actually looked up how to set a template for the sidebar and other stuff that will update on every applicable page, and I actually found a way that I might use that seems quite a bit easier than I thought.

I do have a few ideas for what I could do to overhaul the site, but I can't really decide which idea to go with:

  1. Simply replace all the placeholders and finish everything unfinished, and maybe redesign the layout and "theme", using the same layout & theme for the whole site
  2. One idea I had is to use a different theme and possibly layout for each section of the site, or at least have certain sections have a different theme. For example, I could have one theme for the About & Blog sections, another for the Computercraft Tutorials, another for My Games, ect. This I feel would be the most interesting, but also the most complicated to set up as I would need to have templates for, say, each theme's sidebar that ALSO takes from a "master" template that contains all the text and links in the sidebar.
  3. Similar to the above, but maybe find a way to make seasonal themes for the site, and (if possible) make it so that it automatically switches to the appropriate theme at certain dates.

All in all, while I would PREFER B, I'm honestly leaning more toward A for now just for simplicity's sake. Going with option B just seems way too complex for now, though I may end up overhauling the site again in the future once I'm more experienced and doing something similar to option B.

Anyway, updates should finally be starting to pick up, and I'm probably going to start to at least get in the habit of trying to make a new post each month, or at least once every few months. To be honest, though, posts will likely still come only come once enough happens to warrant a post. I'll also most likely silently update the layout and other pages, only really posing about them when I make a blogpost (aside from mentioning it in the Updates section of the sidebar, something I'm most likely going to keep).
